I wish I could say that some people are just “funny.” The more funny people I come across I find that hard to believe. Behind the funniest of funny, is pain. Deep, heart wrenching pain that somehow gets transfused into another persons laughter.
The hackiest of all comedy usually comes from a person with the worst thing that happened to them was they got broke up with. These comics live blissfully unaware that they are hacky, or unfunny. Most of the time they think they are the funniest. Sometimes the confidence will get them far, but not far enough. You see these comics everywhere.
Then you see that comic sitting in the corner, scars, alone, with a beaten puppy type vibe. They may not be the funniest, or they may, but they don’t think they are. These people have lived through unfortunate events, deaths, who knows but those things caused them pain. That pain led them to a piece of paper and that paper eventually has a joke written on it. In my eyes you are transferring the pain from inside through the pen onto the paper then the stage, and eventually into laughter. It doesn’t make it go away, but it feels a little lighter.
Of course you find people who just like comedy, appreciate the craft, study it, are good writers and then become good comics.
This isn’t about anyone or everyone, it’s just thoughts so please don’t come at me throwing rocks.

I wish I'd read this before going to that show so I could have told you in person how impressed I am with this writing. This could have been an excerpt from the book Running The Light it's so sharp and meaningful and the emotions are so vivid. Alchemical reactions are a beautiful sight to behold indeed (that's kinda what fireworks are, hmm)
